Ever Noticed that Things are Getting Easier?

We used to need a pay phone to make a phone call; now we use cell phones everywhere. Websites were difficult to build; not they’re not. So, why does everyone think Lean Six Sigma has to be learned the same way it was taught in the last century?

“Have you ever noticed that things are getting easier? A lot of things are getting easier.

“You know, we used to have land lines, now we have cell phones we can take with us everywhere that do all kinds of things like take pictures and do text memos, and we can talk to people face to face.

Three Signs that You Need Lean Six Sigma

Here’s three simple signs that you need Lean Six Sigma.

“Hi, this is Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma For Hospitals” and the QI Macros [software].

“There’s three clear signs that you need Six Sigma.

“[1:] First off, you spend more time fixing stuff than you do actually making stuff.

“[2:] Customer complaints have risen to an all-time high and you spend too much time dealing with that.

“[3:] You spend more time mending fences than plowing new fields. You know, that’s a clue that these tools can help you.

“That’s my Improvement Insight for this week.

Defects Aren’t Spread All Over Like Butter On Bread

People often think defects are spread evenly all over the business, like butter on bread. Not true. Here’s why:

“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma Demystified” and QI Macros [software].

“I’ve said this before, but people out there seem to think that defects and mistakes and errors are like butter spread on a slice of bread. It’s just, like, everywhere in your organization, right?

“Not true. It’s more like mold somewhere on a loaf of bread. All you have to do is fix that little piece that’s in trouble in that one [slice] of bread and that’ll keep it from spreading to the rest of the organization.

Lean Six Sigma Trainers are Picked on Price, not Total Value

Most Lean Six Sigma trainers do not include quality improvement software in their pricing, because it would make it hard to compete with other trainers. Purchasing is buying on price, not total value. Without tools like QI Macros, the training is wasted. Here’s why:

“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma Demystified” and QI Macros [software].

“Last week I was out at the American Society for Quality conference in Philadelphia. We had a number of trainers and consultants who stopped by, and they were asking us about QI Macros because Minitab changed their pricing to be an annual subscription of like $1800 bucks, but you can buy QI Macros for $350 and you don’t have to keep renewing it every year.

Form Storm Norm Perform Takes Too Long!

Traditional Form-Storm-Norm-Perform models of team development take too long. Here’s how to collapse the time and skip right to perform.

“I was looking at myASQ, and somebody was asking about the four steps of Team development: Form, Storm, Norm, Perform. You know, if you do it traditional (how it usually was taught), it takes a long time for a team to form (come together), storm (fight each other a little bit), normalize their behavior (so they get productive).

“Well, I found that that takes too long. I can’t get to results that way. What I discovered was if I could do the analysis and figure out how to pinpoint where the problem would be, then I can figure out who ought to be on that team to solve that problem.
